Exit Interviews

This program provides a turn-key, low cost solution for conducting Employee Exit Interviews for both departing employees and internal transfers.

Our practice developed these CU-specific Exit Interviews at the request of HR practitioners at the CUNA-HR Summit in San Francisco, 2002. The questions were developed in consultation with several key Credit Unions.

The benefits of the Exit Interview program include:

  • improved retention among remaining employees
  • last chance to learn from the employee
  • departing employees are more likely to communicate using a web-intermediated survey than with a face-to-face interview.
  • comparison with Exit Interview data from other Credit Unions
  • low cost, turnkey operation

The costs of the exit interview program are significantly less than the cost of recruiting, selecting, training, and developing a replacement for one experienced employee.

When our CU partners first proposed this program, the intent was not to design an expensive project for large credit unions; the concept was (and remains) a low-cost program that many CU's can easily participate in, in order to generate added value through an large aggregate pool of CU Exit Interview responses.

Exit Interviews are a valuable source of information about both general issues and turnover motivations obtained from an employee with nothing to lose, and the timing is serendipitious - this is the last chance to hear from the employee before they've departed. Conducting Exit Interviews over the internet removes several significant logistics problems - providing a space, providing time, fear of reprisal, and the angry employee.

When an employee completes the exit interview, the results are emailed to your Credit Union's HR staff. The HR staff has access to an administrative page that links to all of your Exit Interviews. CU-specific summaries are provided on a quarterly and annual basis.

Benchmarking reports compare your responses with the Exit Interviews generated at all participating Credit Unions, on a quarterly and annual basis. Reports are generated dynamically, so that at any time you can click on the current reports (quarter or year) and see how your responses compare to all of the exit interviews to date.

In keeping with the philosophy of the HR practitioners that proposed the program, the Exit Interview program fee is $599/year. There is a one-time $200 setup fee.
